First Purpose & Values Workshop Outside Japan Held in Indonesia
Moving Beyond Borders Toward "Global One NOK"

In 2023, NOK established its Purpose, which defines the company's role in society, along with four Values that serve as guiding principles for employees' beliefs and actions. Since then, Group companies across Japan have been holding Purpose & Values Workshops for all employees, providing opportunities to reflect on them and apply them as a standard for decision-making. In June 2025, the first overseas Purpose & Values Workshop was held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Sharing NOK Values with employees around the world

Our Purpose and Our Values 
NOK developed its Purpose & Values by revisiting the company's founding principles in the context of today's social environment. The aim is to contribute to a sustainable society while enhancing corporate value. Sharing these across all employees worldwide is key to strengthening collaboration as "Global One NOK." In the workshops, employees reflect on how the Purpose & Values can be applied within their company or department, engaging in dialogue and building empathy. The ultimate goal is for each employee to express the significance and meaning of these commitments in their own words

Rebuilding mindsets through cross-border dialogue

The first overseas Purpose & Values Workshop brought together 39 senior leaders, at the division head level or above, from bases in China, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, and Germany. The objectives behind establishing the Purpose & Values were revisited, followed by group discussions such as the Purpose/Values Deep Dive (nicknamed the "So what does this really mean?" discussion). With participants of diverse nationalities and roles, the workshop provided a forum for lively discussion around shared values, helping deepen understanding across the groups.

The workshop was led by Keiko Kashiwa of Pygmalion Co., Ltd., who facilitated the development of NOK's Purpose & Values and has been involved at every workshop held in Japan

On large sheets of paper, participants in their groups expressed their reflections on the Purpose & Values from a variety of perspectives, showing the depth of the discussions. When summaries from workshops in Japan were projected on the screen, participants listened intently to the explanations.

Promoting the use of Purpose & Values across Group companies through practical learning

Junjie Xu, who joined from NOK (Wuxi) Vibration Control China Co., Ltd., shared his thoughts: "I came to understand the importance of expressing Purpose & Values in my own words. I also learned ways to communicate them effectively to my team."

Post-workshop questionnaries echoed this sentiment, with comments such as: "I feel motivated to share what I learned with my team," "By spreading Purpose & Values through this training, the entire company can grow together as one," "I want everyone in the NOK Group to respect one another and for each team to collaborate in achieving our Purpose," and "I'm eager to take these insights back to my company and put them into practice right away."

Further workshops are planned outside Japan to continue fostering a culture where employees of diverse cultural backgrounds can work together on the basis of shared Values. As Global One NOK, the Group will continue working as one toward even greater business growth.
