Building Toward a Sustainable Society with the NOK Twin Green Plan 2030

In 2018, NOK formulated its long-term environmental vision, the NOK Twin Green Plan 2030. In response to the accelerating global push for decarbonization, NOK revised the NOK Twin Green Plan 2030 in 2022 to establish more ambitious KPIs. This plan reflects our commitment to both minimizing negative environmental impacts and increasing the positive contributions of our products.
Environmental initiatives toward 2030
In 2021, the Japanese government announced its greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2030. At the same time, intensifying climate change has led to growing demands from customers and investors for environmentally responsible and sustainable business practices.
To fulfill its responsibilities as a global company, NOK reviewed its KPIs and revised the NOK Twin Green Plan 2030 in 2022. Under this plan, the NOK Group aims to reduce domestic CO2 emissions by 50% and overseas emissions per unit by 30% by 2030, compared to 2018 levels.
The NOK Twin Green Plan 2030 is built on two pillars: Green Factory and Green Product. Each pillar addresses three key areas: climate change, resource circulation, and water risk. Additionally, the plan includes two overarching themes that do not fall under either pillar: biodiversity and the supply chain.
Green Factory focuses on reducing the environmental impact of production activities. While emissions of CO2 and industrial waste, as well as the consumption of energy and water, are unavoidable in manufacturing, NOK takes a comprehensive approach to mitigating these negative impacts.
Green Product aims to maximize positive environmental contributions. NOK's products inherently support sustainability by preventing leaks, improving efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and extending lifespan. In addition, NOK is actively developing new products that contribute to vehicle electrification, carbon neutrality, and the adoption of next-generation energy solutions.
Establishing a dedicated department to drive Group-wide sustainability
To unify and accelerate sustainability efforts across the Group, NOK established the Sustainability Office in 2023 by integrating the former Environmental Management Office, ESG Promotion Office, and Occupational Safety and Health Promotion Department under the Business Operations Headquarters. This office plays a key role in centralizing and optimizing sustainability initiatives across departments and Group companies, ensuring a more coordinated and efficient approach.
It also supports employee awareness programs, ESG data disclosure, and responses to ESG rating agencies. As a result, employee understanding of sustainability initiatives has deepened, and stakeholder evaluations of NOK have improved year after year.
